FAQs
+ Slow down-- what exactly is FAM?
Fertility Awareness Methods (FAM) of birth control take into account your fertility biomarkers to assess whether or not you are fertile (and therefore can get pregnant) each day. By spending just a few minutes every day observing and recording your fertility signs, you can prevent pregnancy by avoiding unprotected sex on fertile days. Plus, you gain valuable insight into your overall health! FAM is science-based and extremely effective when practiced correctly. (Yes, I teach you to practice it correctly. :) )
+ Can't I learn FAM myself? Why do I need an instructor?
You can learn FAM by yourself. But note that working with an instructor gives the method max efficacy for birth control! Plus, many people find it confusing to learn FAM alone, and it's much quicker to learn by taking a course. By working with an instructor, you get all the info in one place and have a trained professional available to review your charts and give you personalized feedback. This is especially valuable for navigating more confusion situations (like irregular cycles, the postpartum period, PCOS, etc.).
+ Can I learn FAM while I'm still on birth control?
You can still join the course! As you prepare to transition off of synthetic birth control, this course will give you a strong foundation to eventually make the switch to FAM only. Please note that if your birth control suppresses ovulation (most do) then you will not see the changing biomarkers on your own charts. So, it is easier to learn FAM if you are ovulating, or off of birth control.
+ Is this the rhythm method?
Not at all. The rhythm method is based off of counting and guesses from past cycles. FAM is based off of what's going on in your body TODAY-- all observation and science, no guessing.
+ What do you mean by "symptothermal?"
"Sympto" refers to visibly observing your fertility (e.g. cervical fluid). "Thermal" refers to the temperature rise in your cycle after ovulation. By combining basal body temperature with cervical fluid observations, you get a clear picture of your fertility. This differs from the symptohormonal method, which requires you to pee on sticks. No peeing on sticks here. :)
+ What if I'm single?
Then you're welcome here! Anyone can learn and practice FAM. Even if you're not having sex right now, you can start charting and will feel confident in using it for birth control when you are sexually active.
+ What if I want to have a baby someday?
Guess what-- the info in this course can help with that, too! FAM teaches you when you are and aren't fertile. To conceive, you need to have sex in your fertile phase. So, when you're ready to try for a baby, you'll know how to identity your fertile phase and know to time unprotected sex for that time.
+ Do I have to avoid sex when I'm fertile?
You can use a non-hormonal form of protection if you want to have sex during your fertile phase. We'll go over all the options in the course!
+ What if I've already started charting?
I love that you're already charting! This course is packed with clear, accurate and valuable information that can even assist people who have already been charting. If you find charting certain fertility signs to be confusing, or you have tricky cycles, this course will clear up your confusion and give you a stronger foundation of knowledge and practical tools.
+ What if I've never charted before?
Perfect, you'll learn here! I teach you every step of the way so you can feel confident in the method. I will personally review your chart to make sure you're practicing FAM effectively. I am also available via email between course sessions.
+ I got off hormonal birth control already, but haven't gotten my period. Should I still join the course?
Congrats for taking that step! The benefits of joining this course right away are that you get to start charting ASAP (so you'll be a pro by the time Aunt Flo returns), and you'll learn practices to help you encourage healthy cycles. The downside is that if you aren't ovulating throughout the course, you may get frustrated while you wait for your cycles' patterns to normalize. You'll still be able to gain knowledge by seeing others' charts, so you'll be entirely prepared to chart for birth control once you recover your period. So, it's up to you whether you'd like to join now!
+ I'm in! What's the cost?
This course includes everything you need to know to use FAM for birth control and costs $215/person this round! Paying the invoice saves your spot.
