These days, I’m your hormone hype girl. But I still have my own hormone horror story…

For too many years, I believed that my period got in the way of life. That my body and health were icky mysteries that couldn’t be solved. That my own fertility was a nuisance. (Sigh.)

Can you relate?

I wanted to be healthy, strong and successful, but I was burnt out from trying so dang hard. So, I did my best to ignore my body, my fertility and my period.

One month, my ignorance came to a screeching halt…

Long, painful story short, the copper IUD that I had used for years failed, and a misdiagnosed ectopic pregnancy ruptured my Fallopian tube.

I ended up in the ER getting my right tube removed at the ripe-old age of 24. After a doc didn’t test my urine for pregnancy and said I probably just had a UTI. After my responsible self had done everything I was told to do regarding birth control, but with such little knowledge of how my own reproductive system works.

Yeah, yikes. The silver lining? This horrific experience lit my soul on fire…

I had big dreams to chase, and I wanted to use— no longer fight my body to help me get there.

After surgery, I threw myself into every single fertility-related nook and cranny I could find. Textbooks, research papers, blogs, podcasts— ANYTHING I could get my hands on that was even remotely related to fertility, reproduction and the menstrual cycle. And I never looked back.

I learned fertility awareness for birth control. I became a fertility and birth doula, then a fertility awareness educator. I started hacking my own cycle and syncing my life to my fertility so that I could use it as an advantage.

And WOAH.

Everything improved. I banished burnout. My energy, workouts, nutrition, work performance, creativity, relationships and confidence reaped the benefits, and I discovered a new purpose.

Which is to teach YOU, my friend, how to unlock the biological awesomeness of YOUR cycle.

Because I got sick of being lied to about my body.

Like, really freakin’ sick of it.

Lie

Menstrual cycles are always 28 days, period pain is normal and we can get pregnant at any time.

Did you also learn that in your middle school health class? Womp womp.

Truth

Every cycle is different, but you can learn to interpret each one. You can heal your period symptoms (I did!) and feel healthy when Aunt Flo arrives (I do!).

Lie

It's normal to skip periods.

In college, a gyno told me that it was fine that my period was a no-show after being regular for years. Cringe.

Truth:

It was extremely unhealthy. At that point, I was super active but not fueling my body enough. I got a terrible stress fracture and my energy took a nose-dive. Turns out, my hormones were wonky AF!

Now, I consider my period a vital sign, and I can figure out what's bugging my body when I have annoying symptoms.

Lie:

The key to success is doing the same exact thing, day after day.

Have you been told to just do the same workout routine, follow a strict meal plan and take the same synthetic birth control day after day, week after week?

Truth:

I tried this "advice." I burnt out, my period disappeared and I lost my energy for my passions and social life.

The good news? I learned to tap into my natural superpower to guide me every dang day, and I feel a bazillion times better. Your fertility is a built-in system to keep you balanced, energized and inspired throughout all your endeavors.
